TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE
Trauma-Informed Care is a therapy approach that recognizes how trauma affects the brain, body and behavior and adjusts treatment to avoid re-traumatization while promoting healing. The core idea of trauma-informed care is to help the client develop a sense of Safety, Trustworthiness & Transparency, Peer Support, Collaboration, Empowerment and Cultural Awareness. Some of the approaches used in trauma-informed care are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems IFS). It has been widely used to help people with all types of trauma including PTSD due to military assignments, genocide, discrimination, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and other form of trauma.
