CRISIS ASSESSMENTS

A crisis assessment in counseling is a structured, immediate evaluation used to determine a client’s safety, level of risk, and need for urgent intervention. The core idea of a crisis assessment is to maintain a client’s physical, psychological, and emotional safety. It’s most often used when someone is experiencing intense emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, psychotic episodes, or a sudden life disruption that overwhelms their ability to cope.
