DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a structured, evidence-based therapy that treats individuals with chronic emotional dysregulation. The core idea of DBT is based upon finding a balance between Acceptance (validating a person’s experience as real) and Change (learning skills to improve emotional and behavioral responses). DBT uses 4 main skill modules to find this balance. They are Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Today, it is widely used for many issues involving intense emotions and impulsive behaviors. It is used with clients struggling with various kinds of trauma and anxiety issues including PTSD.
